Lesley McGill - The Saddle Doctor
Originally a long time member of Panorama Ridge Pony Club who competed on the Western Canadian Young Riders Team at the North American Young Riders Championship in Chicago (team place 4th) , Lesley has just returned to BC after 11 years overseas. In 1996 she left home to go travel the world with a background in horses which led to many interesting jobs. Fox hunting in England, hare hunting in NZ and Australia, grooming for Olympic Event rider Stuart Tinney in Australia, horse back safaris in Africa, eventing and dressage in NZ, the list goes on..... In 1999 Lesley started working for a prestigious saddlery in Christchurch NZ completing two apprenticeships- (Saddle Fitting, Leather and Canvas (saddler). For 7 years Lesley saddle fit her way around New Zealand while taking many courses in horse anatomy and massage techniques.
She then began working with Society Of Master Saddlers Saddle Fitter-Josephine Giles Dancy whose system of saddle fitting has gained respect around the world. Having completed the minimal 3 years of saddle fitting Lesley was sponsored by Josephine and by The Ideal Saddle Makers in the UK to complete her Society Of Master Saddlers Ltd. (SMS) Qualified Saddle Fitters Course. She will be taking the final exam in August and will then be the only SMS in BC. It is her philosophy that a saddle needs to be fitted comfortably to both the horse and the rider as a poorly balanced saddle WILL effect the riders’ position, and poorly fitted WILL effect a horse’s movement. Lesley specializes in on site re-flocking of saddles ensuring a customized fit of the saddle to the horse. Her saddlery skills allow her to do many modifications to saddles- like girth points, channel widening, panel changes, patch work etc..... along with bridle work.
Lesley has just started her own saddle fitting company called "The Saddle Doctor" and you will see her moving from barn to barn around the lower mainland making happy horses and riders!
