NEWS FROM COUNTERPANE FARM
 |
At Counterpane Farm we are eagerly waiting for the spring foals, and looking forward to the 2007 breeding season.
We will have two foals for sale in 2007. Eyed Luv A Zip aka Christmas is due in March, and Gayle Pawley-Wilson’s beautiful palomino mare, Bluestone Champagne (Willow and Buffy’s dam), is due in April.
Christmas (over 16 hh) is by Make Me Zip and out of a Two Eyed Jack bred mare. Both she and Chip share a common grandsire - Zippo Pine Bar. We think this should be an exceptionally good cross and are eagerly awaiting this baby
Champagne is also Two Eyed Jack bred - and Buffy and Willow (full siblings) are living proof that’s a good cross! We are hopeful of buckskin but won’t be unhappy with bay.
So far all of Chip’s babies except one (buckskin Buffy) have been bay. And, until 2006 when Billy surprised us and delighted owner Karen Foster, they were all girls. We didn’t think Chip could make boys. Billie is the image of Chip at that age - which, in our eyes, makes him pretty special. He, as all of Chip’s other babies, has Chip’s friendly nature.
Chip’s first babies should hit the show ring this year
– watch for updates. |
Left - one of the Counterpane pastures. Centre - A family of deer were such frequent visitors that the horses (Buffy and Christmas shown) accepted them as part of the family. Summer, 2006 was the driest we can ever remember, and you can see that it took a toll on our pastures. Right - Christmas came to Counterpane in February, 2006 - in the form of our sweet broodmare, Eyed Luv A Zip aka Christmas, shown with our granddaughter, Riley.

Chip had a great 2006 - welcoming the ladies, accepting all the attention visitors gave him, and enjoying the freedom of a big paddock and adjoining pastures. In the centre photo Chip romances Ty, one of the lovely mares that Jeneane Evans brought to his court in 2006. Rosa, Jeneane’s other mare, is shown on Chip’s pedigree page.
