FW Quarter Horses :

Its with a very heavy heart that I let everyone know of the passing of two great mares on March 6, 2008. First was Kyanna... my dearest love. I came home from a Quarter Horse meeting down island, the night before, to find Kyanna in a full colic. I rushed her to our surgical vet DVM Colin Scruton, but there was nothing that he could do for her. It was just to late. I bred, & campaigned Kyanna to her 3 NWQH Congress Championships as a weanling, then she got hurt and became my future broodmare. Those who knew Kyanna knew her to be this great profiler that would steal your heart in a moment. Her gentleness, loving personality, and just being a shoulder to lean on for talks, will be forever missed. She leaves us behind her own darling filly. This filly is the spitting image of Kyanna but liver chestnut. This filly has been sold to our new friends and clients, the Lokkens of Saskatchewan. "Kids Top Model" (aka Porsche) will remain here at FW Quarter Horses and will be campaigned in 2009 by myself in the Yearling Halter Filly Divisions. The two photo's of Kyanna are from her winning at the NWQH Congress in 2004 and the last photo taken just days before we lost her.
One the same day we had to humanly lay to rest my clients Reserve World Champion Producing mare MISS STAR SIERRA. Sierra too had a heart of gold and quite the mother hen. This mare has given me new meaning to the word motherhood! 2 weeks prior to giving birth, Sierra vaginally walled prolapsed & ruptured. The uncertainty of her holding her pregnancy to term was at best, very slim. With medical support from DVM Peter Park, DVM Colin Scruton, and myself, we managed to hold her pregnancy for the remainder of 2 weeks. She foaled out a healthy colt but being in so much pain she ended up foundering severely. With Sierra's nurturing nature she made sure that the colt, who we have nicknamed Oliver, had the best two months with his mom. You would always see them nuzzling, nickering to one another, and Oliver sleeping within her forelegs. Sierra has left a legacy of truly great horses behind. We are blessed to have 2 of them at FW Quarter Horses. Her daughter OBVIOUSLY IMA DIVA (2007 Select World Show Top Ten) who I will be campaigning this season in the Yearling Halter Mares, and her full 2008 brother VERSACHE (AKA Oliver) that will make his debut in 2009. Both babies are doing extremely well and I would like to take this moment and thank all of those who have emailed, called, and sent flowers to the house. Your thoughts have helped me through this incredible and heart breaking ordeal ~ Andrea
